Many so called christian's are self proclaimed liars.
They are some of the biggest liars I have ever encountered. For example, they will offer to help you, promise to help you…then they make excuses, make you jump thru hoops and then leave you hanging…all the time saying that God told them to…or some similar foolishness . They will then say that God/Jesus will forgive them. Fine . I’m not God or Jesus…I’m not going to forgive or forget. To their mindset, when they get forgiven, they will go and lie again because the Imaginary of the universe forgive them over and over.
Christians insist that Jesus won a victory over sin and death on the cross. However, people still die and the world today is riddled with sin. These people are pathological liars.
People that lie to themselves by believing in unproven crap, will naturally lie to others regarding their own religious crap or other kind of crap…
A lot of so called christian's are liars. The reason why I say this is the very fact or moment they're told to love each other that post receives no likes or loves to indicate that the post was received , But these same liars will make the bold claim that they love God with all of there hearts . Now if that is not a lie what is? The bible says you are the children of your father the devil ( John 8:44). I did not write that . That is the word of God calling all of you out for what you are in His sight. The sight of a mighty God. You are liars.
Christians who live so that they are never contaminated are useless, and they are liars, because we are all contaminated more seriously than we can imagine if we have ever seen a human soul as it was meant to be.
When first a more serious, idealistic Christian, I didn’t think this was even a possibility. Surely those who follow the Humble God, who died an ignominious death at the hands of slanderers would, if liars, just follow someone else or themselves. After all, the goal for selling yourself and damaging those who threaten you is a bigger pile on the world market.
Since that first, idealistic time, and as I began to be aware of and to leave my own lies behind, I have had experience of Christian liars. These are people who present an image containing many good things: piety, manners, a well-phrased turn of speech, admiration from peers and those they claim to serve, a focus on virtue, ad nauseam. Often, these are very educated people in positions of influence, precisely because the image they present is so compelling and admirable to other idealistic Christians who, like me, cannot fathom a liar following a persecuted-for-His-honesty God.
But , Can you be a Christian, a follower of Christ, and be a liar?
Is Lying Justified?
“But does God require us to tell the truth at all times? Such a proposition is highly questionable. The commandment is very clear: we are not to bear false witness against our neighbor, but this does not mean that our neighbor or our enemy is ever entitled to the truth from us, or any word from us, about matters of no concern to them, or of private nature to us. No enemy or criminal has any right to knowledge from us which can be used to do us evil. … No one who is seeking evil, to violate the law in reference to us or to another, is entitled to the truth.
One does not have to be a theologian to discover how God feels about lying. All one needs is a concordance and one will find an abundance of verses where God condemns lying.
It should be obvious that God hates lying in any and every form, considers it a heinous sin, the fruit of our old nature and the product of the devil who was a liar from the very beginning. The commandment of bearing false witness and included scores of proof texts to justify each point. Those who advocate lying in some situations would do well to study what those godly divines wrote so that they would better understand the spiritual scope of that commandment.
The Bible Does Not Condone Lying Under Any Situation.
There is no verse in the Bible where God condones lying. Consider the following indirect proof.
Suppose there was a situation where it was acceptable to lie. Then it would be acceptable for God or Jesus Christ to lie in that same situation. But we read in Hebrews:
" “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18)"
Therefore there exists no situation in which God can lie.
Further he has promised in his Word deliverance from all forms of temptation that may beset a Christian so that he will not have to be overcome and yield to sin.
" “No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Corinthians 10:13)."
It is God—the omnipotent, omniscient God—who will preserve us in our times of temptation not our own wits and wisdom. Further note that this promise is unconditional. No matter how badly you may have failed and sinned in the past, this promise still stands true for every believer. Do not let past defeats rob you of a present victory!
I have claimed this promise personally many times and God has never failed to deliver me from the temptation that would otherwise have lead me to sin against him. Only when I have been foolish enough to rely on my own strength, have I sinned. If one claims this verse when tempted there is no excuse for any of our sins, including lying. Oh how far short we fall from God’s standard of holiness!
Also note that Jesus was tempted in all points as we are (including lying), yet he did not sin (Hebrews 4:15); and God has promised to provide a way of escape for every temptation, not just some temptations but all temptations, so that we may not sin against him (1 Corinthians 10:13).
Therefore, there exists no situation in which a Christian is not sinning by lying, for God has promised a way of escape from all temptations. Oh for grace and faith to avail ourselves of the promises God has made to us.
I’m a Christian, and I’ve experienced the same thing.
The most godly, loving, caring, honest, decent Christians I know, are all the ones that quietly go about their lives. They tell people about God when they ask, and sing loudly in church, but they don’t walk screaming about being super Christians.
I’ve seen the same thing with some who claim they hear from God all the time.
All the people I know, who have told me they hear from God constantly, every single one of them, their lives have been total train wrecks.
Why are so many Christians pathological liars? I would suggest that they are liars for the same reasons as non-Christians, and in similar percentages. It is possible that Christians' faith makes some more honest, but I've never seen any reputable study on this.
Is there any Christian out there who feels that this dishonesty is unnecessary and allows themselves to examine their beliefs, even if only so they can have a mature, respectful conversation with someone who doesn't think as they do?
I think I may be one of those Christians, and I have met a lot of Christians like this on social media . I have repeatedly admitted my doubts as well as stating my convictions. Many reasons. Commonly, they found early in their lives that people around them responded better to lies than to the truth. The truth might even have been dangerous to them. Lies let them manipulate reality so they could get needs like safety, love, and connection met.
Eventually lies feel right and the truth doesn’t. Lies give them control over their lives when the truth doesn’t.
Why has the Christian walk met so many dishonest Christians? I expect it is selection bias. If you are looking for lies when talking to Christians, you will find them and remember them. And after a while, you'll conclude that there is a disquieting number of pathological liars in churches.
Why are so many Christians pathological liars? Please read my comment, I'm not making any sort of generalization. I'm not saying every Christian, or even most Christians are like this. Unfortunately the comment is longer than the "question details" sections allows me.
I will start with: “"I want an answer from a christian, ultimately to what compels them to believe what they do...,"
People may justify doing wrong by:
ReplyDeleteViewing the behavior as a grey area.
Believing the behavior will benefit others.
Highlighting moral credentials.
Symbolically cleansing.
Partially coming clean.
Rationalization is a defense mechanism in which controversial behaviors or feelings are justified and explained in a seemingly rational or logical manner to avoid the true explanation . Self-serving justifications are the process of providing reasons for questionable behaviors and making them appear less unethical . Justifying oneself means to explain to someone the reason why you did something, especially when they think you have done something wrong .
