Just as light dispels darkness, Jesus brings clarity, purpose, and salvation. Without Him, we remain in spiritual darkness, unable to fully comprehend our existence or perceive the beauty and brokenness of the world.

Through Jesus, our hearts can brighten, and we find freedom and purpose. Acknowledging our insufficiency, we cling to the God who is more than enough .

The Greek word for “light” in John 8:12 is “phos,” signifying brightness, illumination, and clarity. It describes both physical light (like the sun and stars) and metaphorical enlightenment.

Jesus, present at creation, embodies this light. He is the image of the invisible God, shining on the retina of our souls .

Our Role as Reflectors of Light:

Everything in the Bible is precisely what God intended it to convey, and its meaning aligns with God’s divine purpose .

Characteristics of Scripture:

Authority: The Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and life. Its authority derives from God, who breathed out the Scriptures. Jesus Himself, being God, speaks through the Bible.

Inspiration: The Bible is “God-breathed.” The Holy Spirit guided the human authors, preserving their personalities while ensuring the words are both God’s and theirs.

Infallibility and Inerrancy: The Bible is infallible (unable to fail) and inerrant (free from factual or doctrinal errors). It is reliable and trustworthy.

Clarity: The Bible’s teachings are clear, even though the Holy Spirit’s illumination is necessary for understanding.

Necessity and Sufficiency: The Bible is essential for salvation and thoroughly equips believers for good works .

Jesus as the Living Word:

In addition to the written Word, Jesus Christ is also called the Word of God.

John 1:1 states, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”

Jesus embodies God’s message to humanity, revealing God’s love, grace, and truth .

Our Interaction with the Word:

The Word of God is a powerful source of spiritual sustenance and moral guidance.

It comforts us in hardship, offers hope, and invites a life rooted in love and respect for others.

It serves as a roadmap for how we should live, leading us toward God’s will and purpose .

The Word of God encompasses both the written Scriptures and Jesus Christ Himself. It is authoritative, infallible, and life-transforming. As we engage with it, we form an unbreakable bond with God, understanding His will and finding hope for our lives 13.
