Christian's living like the world.

Living like the world is a phrase that refers to Christians who are living in a way that is not aligned with the teachings of the Bible. The Bible teaches that Christians should not conform to the patterns of this world, but instead, they should be transformed by the renewing of their minds . The Bible also warns against worldliness, which is the pursuit of worldly pleasures and desires . Therefore, Christians should strive to live according to the teachings of the Bible and avoid living like the world.

Examples of worldliness include, but are not limited to:

Love of the world: This refers to the desire for worldly pleasures and possessions, which can lead to a lack of focus on spiritual matters .

Materialism: This is the pursuit of material possessions and wealth, which can lead to a lack of contentment and a focus on worldly things .

Love of sinful pleasures: This refers to the desire for sinful activities such as drinking, drugs, and sexual immorality, which can lead to a lack of self-control and a focus on worldly things .

Conforming to this world: This refers to adopting the values and behaviors of the world, which can lead to a lack of discernment and a focus on worldly things .

Lack of grace: This refers to a lack of forgiveness and mercy towards others, which can lead to a focus on worldly things rather than spiritual matters .

The Bible has several verses that warn against worldliness and encourage Christians to live according to the teachings of the Bible. For instance, 1 John 2:15-16 states, “Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world.” . Similarly, James 4:4 warns, “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.” .

In addition, the Bible provides examples of worldliness, such as the love of the world, materialism, love of sinful pleasures, conforming to this world, and lack of grace .

It is important for Christians to avoid worldliness because the Bible warns against it and encourages Christians to live according to the teachings of the Bible. Worldliness refers to the pursuit of worldly pleasures and desires, which can lead to a lack of focus on spiritual matters . The Bible teaches that Christians should not conform to the patterns of this world, but instead, they should be transformed by the renewing of their minds .

In addition, worldliness can lead to a lack of contentment, a focus on material possessions, and a lack of self-control . The Bible warns against the love of the world, materialism, love of sinful pleasures, conforming to this world, and lack of grace .

To be healthy and growing Christians, we must maintain a close watch, guarding against the least encroachment of worldliness. We must be aware of its existence and its allure. We must be aware of its ease, for while godliness requires tenacity, worldliness takes only apathy.

Renewing the mind is a process of transformation that involves changing the way we think and live. According to the Bible, Christians can renew their minds by:

Filling their minds with God’s Word: Reading, meditating on, and memorizing Scripture can help Christians develop a biblical perspective and honor God with their minds .

Guarding their minds: Christians should be careful about what they allow into their minds, avoiding worldly influences and focusing on what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, and praiseworthy .

Framing their minds: Christians should take off the old self and put on the new self, letting go of cultural perspectives and embracing a biblical perspective. They should also replace lies with truth and focus on what is good and right.

Renewing the mind is a lifelong process that requires discipline and effort. However, it is essential for Christians who want to grow in their faith and become more like Christ.

When Christians become born again, God redeems their minds like the rest of their personhood. This means that, for once, they can truly honor God with their minds. At conversion, they receive “the mind of Christ” (1 Cor. 2:16). Like other dimensions of the Christian life, this is something God does in them, through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, but it is also something they are responsible to pursue and cultivate. How do they accomplish this? How does the gospel impact their minds? How do they cultivate a renewed mind, with thoughts, deliberations, and ideas that honor Him?

Filling Your Mind: The first step toward renewing one’s mind is the steady intake of God’s Word. Christians can read the Bible, meditate on it, sit under sound preaching, listen to audio Bible readings, and memorize it. Whatever the means, the first key is to fill their mind.

Guarding Your Mind: If filling one’s mind refers to what they take in, guarding their mind refers to what they keep out. Christians can guard their minds not only by what they keep out, but by what they choose to dwell on. Their thought life is a powerful tool, for better or worse. What they determine to think on is, in many ways, determinative for their spiritual lives. That is why the apostle Paul exhorts them accordingly, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable— if there is any moral excellence and if there is anything praiseworthy—dwell on these things” (Phil. 4:8).

Framing Your Mind: Christians can renew their minds by framing their mind with the truth of God’s Word. They can take off the old self and put on the new self. They can let go of their cultural perspective and put on a biblical perspective. They can take off lies and replace them with truth.

Renewing one’s mind is a lifelong process that requires discipline and intentionality. It is a process of transformation that is accomplished by the Holy Spirit as Christians cooperate with Him

Renewing one’s mind is important because it is a process of transformation that is accomplished by the Holy Spirit as Christians cooperate with Him . The Bible exhorts Christians to renew their minds and not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of their mind. Then they will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will .

Renewing one’s mind means changing to become more like God by changing the thoughts to align with the thoughts He has, and what He has told us already in His Word. Most of life’s battles are in our minds. Our feelings are the outward manifestations of the thoughts we believe. So, our struggle isn’t so much with what we feel, but it’s in the thoughts we have that lead to our emotions. Our battle is in our mind. Being transformed by the renewing of the mind really means that we are changing to become more like God by changing the thoughts we have to align with the thoughts He has, and what He has told us already in His Word .
