Galatians 5:13 ESV
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Sometimes life feels so free. We have space and time, and choices, and feel alive and inspired. Freedom fills every nook and corner of life and our souls are soaring high in the sky, right alongside the clouds and birds. Sometimes life feels so stuck and bound like we are shackled down by heavy chains with nothing but the darkness of a tunnel hitting a dead-end ahead of us.
Freedom appears to be such a fickle and faithless attendant. One moment it’s here. The next moment it’s not. Much like happiness and love, it is fleeting and capricious in nature. But what happens when you decide to dedicate your life to freedom? What happens then? And what happens when all you want is freedom, yet it appears hidden, no matter how much you search?
Why is it so hard to be free?
To be a free person, in other words, is to be able to act according to your autonomous will in consequence of not being dependent on the will, and hence on the mere goodwill, of anyone else. Letting go is hard because it means that you need to free yourself from some aspects of your past. Things that have become a part of yourself – of what makes you who you are today. Most people understand this as getting rid of that 'thing' resulting to a change in who you are. You can find letting go to be scary.
To be free, ultimately, is to be devoted – in ways that might be strenuous – to meeting our own expectations. We all want a life that means something. You could be one who can live a free life. You just do follow some tricks and tips. Don't make rules for the life, make principal for it. Are you one who have lots of desires and demand from the life. If your answer is yes, then it is difficult for you to live a free life.
Dealing with unwanted thoughts can be quite a distraction to our every day life preventing us from focusing and achieving the life we want. You can learn to calm your mind and cope with those nagging, negative emotions.
When's the last time you reflected on what YOU want?
Are you living according to other people’s expectations? Are you living your life for yourself and doing what makes you happy? Do you even know what would make you happy?
Take some time to reflect on the life you want for yourself:
1-Be honest with yourself about what you think, feel and want.
2-Be honest with yourself about your experiences, both painful and joyful.
3-Be honest with yourself about what’s most important to you in life, love and career.
Be honest with yourself about if you are living your life genuinely, or are you attempting to satisfy other's expectations or ideals?
When we connect our thoughts to our actions, we are able to take control of our lives and steer ourselves in the direction we want to go. We can choose to believe the thoughts that empower us and lead us toward our goals, and ignore the ones that don't. So if you're feeling overwhelmed by stress, anxiety or negative thoughts, remember that you have the power to free your mind – and create the life you want to live.
Keep growing.
When you live for yourself, you take full responsibility for your actions and how you respond to life’s events. You can’t place the blame on anyone else. It’s all on you.
This includes keeping yourself in check and making sure you don’t overstay your comfort zone.
There’s a distinct difference between pursuing a life that makes you happy and a life that makes you proud.
When you focus solely on pursuing happiness, you run the risk of neglecting the things in life that are unpleasant yet necessary. These might be 1. things that must get done, like chores or admin work or 2. things that are uncomfortable, but could really help you grow.
If you’re happy with the way the way things are, you may feel like you don’t need to change, and thus stop pushing yourself to grow, take risks or step outside of your comfort zone. This may lead you to become lazy and unmotivated, causing your happiness and self confidence to decline.
To live a truly fulfilling life, you must aim to live a life you’re proud of. This includes stepping outside your comfort zone, doing things that scare you, and always doing your best.
By the way, it’s possible to be happy and grateful for the present moment, and also continue to push yourself to grow.
And as you grow in life, your standards will grow as well.
You realize it’s not about the destination. It’s about your growth, and how you expand in this process.
Living for yourself is choosing a life of responsibility, freedom and fulfillment.
You have the power to steer your life in any direction you choose. As I like to say, you are the artist of your life. Life is an art. Make it your masterpiece.
