Want to Chase or ( Walk ) after God ?

What does it mean to walk humbly with God? To “walk humbly with God” is the basis for loving mercy and doing justice. Because of what God has done, we fully invest in healing the world around us through mercy and justice. Cultivating our walk with God provides the power and passion for us to fully engage—it grounds everything else we do.

How can I walk with God daily? Walking is a step by step process, and, similarly, the Christian life is a day by day process. To walk with God you must read His Word every day. Just as you must exercise faithfully to see physical results, so you must walk with God faithfully to grow. Walking with God also involves talking to Him.

What does it take to begin a relationship with God? Devote yourself to unselfish religious deeds? Become a better person so that God will accept you? You may be surprised that none of those things will work. But God has made it very clear in the Bible how we can know Him. In the heart of every Christian is a longing for an intimate connection with God. James 4:8 says, "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." In order to walk with God, He tells us to pursue Him. Christians can draw near by practicing the ancient spiritual discipline " chase after God".

Practicing the spiritual discipline leads to a deeper interactive relationship with God in Christ Jesus. The screaming need in Christianity today is for Christians who walk humbly and deeply with God.

What are you chasing? We’re all chasing after something, something that we think will make us happy—comfort, success, a bigger house, or someone’s approval. But if we are all honest, it feels like trying to catch the wind.

A man after God’s own heart… As David’s life weaves throughout the pages of Scripture, we see he was a man who spent his life chasing after God. David’s life and the Psalms that flowed out of those experiences. Through David’s example we’ll discover what God really wants from us. So whether you are running from God or working your tail off to please Him, David’s journey will challenge your view of God. God is invisible, and yet He is the only thing we can chase that won’t leave us feeling more empty.

The closer I have gotten to the life of this man, David, the more my ideas of what God wants from me have been shattered. David had one life and two eyes and one heart, just like me, but they were all laser-focused on the heart of his God . . . my God. David was in love with Him.

And, yes, David sinned and wrestled, just like me. But while he was not so concerned about appearing godly, he was terribly concerned about knowing God. He was a man who saw past his circumstances, past himself, past this life to the heart of God.

We gather together to discover the heart of God. I am terrified we get it wrong a lot of the time. We rarely, in our busy lives, stop and see Him, really see Him. We are so busy doing things for Him and for everyone else we altogether miss Him. He wants us.

As we chase after His heart together this weeks, we should explore the life of David, a man who knew the heart of God. We should look into the passionate conversations. And whether you are running from God or working your tail off to please Him, David’s journey will challenge your view of God.

When God is at the center of our lives and is the source of our security and worth, we experience a level of confidence and sureness that’s unattainable through human means. When we’re uninterested in God, or are convinced that self-worth is attained via our personal accomplishments or affirmation from other people, then the likely and inevitable outcome will be to view ourselves in one of the following ways : Unworthy , Inadequate , Insignificant .

These emotions drive our chase and push us to find something to provide us with a sense of confidence and meaning. “you can’t be neutral on a moving train,” and that sentiment applies here; no one is completely devoid of feelings as life advances around us, and we’re going to take action based on how we deal with those emotions.

If you can relate to feeling unworthy, inadequate, or insignificant then you should take time to consider what you’ve been putting most of your energy into pursuing. It’s human nature to seek validation from someone, and it takes spiritual work to train ourselves to seek it from God. Self-worth or self-esteem will quiet these three giants; but if you chase the wrong thing, you will only quiet them temporarily.

"Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun."

Ecclesiastes 2:11 NIV

It’s difficult to fully grasp the meaninglessness of the world if we never take time to survey our lives and embrace the impact those pursuits have had on us. Facing the truth can be challenging, especially if it’s the truth about how devoid of meaning most of what we spend our time doing is. But taking an honest, hard look at where our energy is going and what we’re really getting out of it is necessary if we’re going to make the right choices moving forward.
